I seem to have somewhat unique issue when playing the Sims2. I have all the ep's and stuff packs, and patches, including the new FT patch. I haven't installed anything new in ages so I just can't tell what is causing this:

Game runs smoothly, until I choose to click/pick the gray "technical" maxis desk from the furniture selection. After that I get a very vague error message and the game collapses. Any ideas?

Ok. I removed ALL custom content, all mods etc. I re-installed Sims 2, all stuff packs, all ep's and all patches.
 
Still no sound.

I have no idea what's wrong with my sims nowadays. The game starts and runs normally, but there simply is no sound. And sound settings in game won't let me open them.
I haven't done anything new, so the issue truly just appeared from nowhere. I checked my computers sound settings, but I can't find anything that would be wrong. The issue only appears in game. I even removed all hacks and mods, and checked that I had all possible patches for the game. I have all ep's and stuffpacks.
 
Please, I don't know what to try anymore!

In 16 days I'll have my second 21st birthday, and in honor of that I thought I'd make a final edition of my selfsim. Since I finally found ways to make non-symmetrical sims, I thought that making me as I am would be nice. And surprisingly, it turn out to look like me (duh). Unfortunately I didn't find a good face picture of myself for comparing (I _must_ get some photos of myself, just to keep my credibility )
 
The sim comes with maxis hair and clothing, but might need all expancion packs. Hair in pictures by Peggy, clothes from Liana Sims and Sims 2 H&M stuff pack. This sim is dedicated to Lytoughs 'Your Sim... in other people's games' picture entry here on InSimenator.
