Title: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: Naria on April 10, 2009, 08:37:39 pm
I see a distinct lack of movie threads, you guys.  :p I love movies and watch way too many of them (it's what happens when you have no life, after all) so I figured I'd start this.

What's the last movie you watched? And what'd you think of it? You don't have to write a full movie review (unless you want to, of course!) just whether it was awesome, okay, or terrible!

Last movie I watched: Bedtime Stories. It was all right, sort of cute and I had a few chuckles. :)

Love Hot Fuzz, Jumper, and Scarface, can't wait to see Haunting in Connecticut, but totally gave up on Shoot 'Em Up with the insane gun shoot out/birth scene. Couldn't do it. Too ridiculous.  :p

Just watched: Last Holiday and Yes Man, they were both okay.

Watching Diary of the Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848557/) at the moment. I do so love a good zombie movie, even if I've seen every single one out there. Hah.

Haha. Yup! Lulzy movie indeed. Dance of the Dead was also quite lulz-worthy, even if they took the slapstick too far. :P

Saw a movie called "Hot Fuzz"..thought it was funny enough to DVR it for my Husband to see! He really enjoyed it! We'll be watching it again. Takes place in a village in England where everyone is perfectly happy...but why? A new all-business Sargeant from London discovers it's secrets!!! Check it out!!!    ;D

Hot Fuzz is hilarious. If you like that, you should watch Shaun of the Dead - has the same guy in that's in Hot Fuzz

not really watching too many films lately, more into TV - Numbers, CSI etc etc and I'm also wading through the complete series of Northern Exposure but I did watch Gladiator for the gazillionth time the other night, I love that film!

Shaun of the Dead is one of the best movies ever. EVER.

Just watched Role Models. Eh, it was all right, I suppose. I'm getting kind of sick of stupid comedies, though.

Wow it just occured to me...I don't think Hamlet's ever been performed eau natural.  Well it's your fault ya mentioned Ewan McGregor in the buff 1titter.

"The Other Boleyn Girl" -  And might I say I've never seen King Henry (in a dress and tights--sue me I don't know the proper name for the garb) looking so incredibly sexy in that getup before.

A list for Ali: Trainspotting, Velvet Goldmine, Young Adam, The Pillow Book (I think, it was so awful I kinda just ... blanked out).

That's all I can think of right now. I've seen so many Ewan McGregor movies they kinda just blend together ...  :p And yes, the one you described was The Island.

"Drowning Mona"..again.

Trainspotting is win. But at least watch Velvet Goldmine, Ali. Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Why wouldn't you?

I'm not fond of Nicholas Cage, either. He seems to have one facial expression.

The original "The Last House on the Left". Wow, was it freakin' awful!!

I just hope the remake is better. Course, if the new one sucks, it still wouldn't be as bad as the 70's version.

You can imagine how much I loved both of them.

Milk starring Sean Penn was the last new movie I saw. I normally don't like Sean Penn, but wow, he was fantasic as Harvey Milk. The whole freaking cast terrific.

You know, I take back my last reply. I had forgotten I had recently seen "Milk". What a great movie, I agree.

Although, I have always been a fan of Sean Penn as a writer, director and actor.

Last movie I watched was Seven Pounds. It was all right. They seriously could've made it easier to understand in the beginning, though.  :-\

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: kinnika on April 19, 2009, 08:28:50 am
I just watched "Seven Pounds" as well - two days ago, along with "Twilight" and "Fireproof". It was good. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson did a great job as always, but I agree - I was lost for at least awhile after it started. Although, a lot of that was done on purpose. I do like movies where you don't know what's going on until the end.

As for "Twilight", I was not going to watch it at first because I thought "this is going to be a movie geared toward teen-age girls who are going to be watching this thing while drooling, squealing and being really annoying in theatre. Who wants to watch that?"

But then, I gave it a second thought and rented it. I am always up for watching a movie with a different take on Vampires - they have always been my favorite supernatural beings. However, I do not like ALL vampire movies. But this one was not bad. It actually shows all the vampire's abilities and scratches all of Hollywood's version of vampire's flaws (can't enter sunlight, sleeps during the day etc). It also kind of replicated the romance and passion that vampires possess from one of my favorite versions - Bram Stoker's Dracula. I found this movie to be chilling, exciting, and very entertaining to watch - teeny bopper movie or not.

I'm never have been thrilled by Kristen Stuart's performances. I actually find her very plain. But I guess she was all right. I was actually quite surprised to see that Peter Facinelli was in it. And he didn't play an annoying jock in it, which also was a surprise. And finally, Pattinson did play a dark moody vampire very well. He's come a long way since Hogwarts.

In fact, I am almost embarrassed to admit, I hope they finish the series (I guess there's four total, right?). Course, I would stick to renting them all (I can deal without the fan-club ;)).

Vampire fans - rent it, you might enjoy it.

Whoa, guys. Sorry for the review, lol. I know this post didn't ask for them.

Just watched Zack & Miri Make a Porno last night.  Once you get past the fact that somebody as hot as Elizabeth Banks would never hook up with somebody as funny looking as Seth Rogen, it was pretty funny.  Another example of what a talent Kevin Smith is (he directed).  Recently saw the original M*A*S*H.  It was pretty funny in spots, but not the "cinematic masterpiece" some of my friends seem to think it is.

The little one and I just watched Nightwatch (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119791/). (Not to be confused with the Russian movie Night Watch, which ... is weird, to say the least.) It was actually pretty good considering the crap I usually sit through just for the sake of staring at Ewan McGregor. I just found out on IMDb the screenplay was co-written by Steven Soderbergh. I must not have been paying attention to the credits or I would've known to love it. (I love that man.)

I keep wanting to rewatch that ... I loved it so much even though it made me cry so many times. LOL. Yes, I'm odd.

I just watched Incendiary, it was so bad. It started out making at least a little bit of sense even though it was way too overly dramatic, but it just went down the drain REAL fast. I want my two hours back. Seriously. No amount of Ewan McGregor nudity could make that worth watching. Those two hours where I wouldn't have been doing anything otherwise, I STILL want them back.

It was hard for me to watch. I kept getting interrupted so I'm going to have to watch it again this week some time.

The dual movies I bought recently and watched: the original That Darn Cat with Hayley Mills as Patti Randall and the remake of That Darn Cat with Christina Ricci as Patti Randall.

The remake sucked so bad. I wasn't impressed.

Clovenfield sucked so bad we sold the DVD to a pawn shop. I wasn't impressed. The constant camera moving actually made me experience motion sickness, which is what I normally don't experience.

Superhero Movie - Frickin hilarious!

When a Stranger Calls (the new version) - Pretty creepy.  The part where the phone rings and Jill answers, thinking it's another harassing call, and it ends up being a police officer who says, "Jill, we traced the call.  It's coming from inside the house!" That part sent a shiver down my spine.

I liked Troy simply because of how it managed to combine ass-kicking masculinity and a decent love story into one movie.

Things the movie got right:
-*shouts* ACHILLES!
-Achilles dragging Hector's body behind the chariot was pulled off well.
-The Trojan Horse was pulled off well.
-And of course, who could forget that Greek guy, who may or may not have been named, getting impaled in the face with that spear upon the Greeks' landing at Troy?

What the movie needed IMO, besides more cowbell, was the gods meddling more in the war itself. The way it was presented seemed like a historical perspective on the Iliad. I liked the results, but, personally, I would have liked more of the mythology presented. I can now imagine Diomedes joyfully wounding Ares and Aphrodite...

Haha, Batman had a serious case of throat cancer.

I saw Storm of the Century for the first time yesterday.

The proposal. Man what a funny movie. Yes it's the same she hates him, he hates her, everything works out in the end kind of movie. But it was still funny as hell. Sandra looks good and well Ryan is just plain hot and naked. Betty white steals the show. Great movie....ok where is my money?

Grey Gardens (the original documentary.) Saw the HBO treatment a few weeks ago and realized I'd never seen the original. Just fantastic. If the Edies were around now they'd have a long-running 'reality' tv show, they were such interesting characters.

I'd like to build that house (the renovated version, although the famously run-down one would be quite interesting. I think it would crash my game, though - too much garbage, raccoons, food, overgrown wildlife, etc.)

Most depressing movie ... I wouldn't even know where to start, honestly. I've seen too many. As for The Unborn, I liked it. I just assumed Gary Oldman would be in more of it, and he wasn't...  :'( The lead actress in it was pretty though so she made up for that.  ;)

hmm... last movie... I think it was "G-force".
I love 3D films (I do 3D myself, so it's really fun to see what other people come up with).
A bit too predictable - but it was very funny. Besides - I loved the 3D effects  ;D

Hopefully going to se "UP" on Friday (after my school assignment is handed in).

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: Theraven on September 29, 2009, 07:02:12 pm
yeah - a little silly. Heard the story before, a few very predictable scenes, and so on. But it had a lot of fun moments, so I enjoyed it anyway (in other words, I laughed so much I almost fell off my seat). Though I've got very sick humor. I often start laughing before the funny parts happen (I see them coming...), and laugh on places nobody else does... ;D

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I have a very dark sense of humor. I tend to laugh when some dies in a funny way, or when a monster creeps up on them. I also have a very sarcastic type of humor. My teachers always tell me off for it.

I also just watched Titanic. I don't know how I watched it when I was younger. It really annoys me.

The Boogeyman 3 (why I don't know why I watched cause boogeyman 1 was awful) but it was ok.  Of course, after that movie, my spouse thought it was funny to creep up & scare me silly when I was in the shower.

The Butterfly Effect--Revelations.

Up (which I loved) and Cloudy with a chance of meatballs--which I never wanted to see, but actually wasn't bad.

"The Butterfly Effect" is brilliant :) Though, the second time I saw it, the ending surprised me... I just couldn't remember it like that - probably because I also saw the alternative ending the first time I saw it.

"Up" is brilliant - and, in my opinion, one of the best of Pixar's movies. (Of course, Pixar only makes good films - but there was something special about UP. I even sat there crying in a few of the scenes :))

"Stay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6mDmETvbJ0&hl=nn)" - a psychological thriller. Saw it a few hours ago, after school.

There's something I really like about the story, and even though there's little "action", the camera movements and shifts between scenes are done so good that you almost feel like you're going crazy together with the main persons... Everything in the film has a meaning, even though nothing becomes clear until the end.

"Hit and Run" (2009). I'm watching it now out of pure boredom.  Don't ask me why--the premise is kind of loony.

Paranormal Activity. I thought the couple stuff was well done. If you're part of a couple you may find yourself saying what the girlfriend said to her partner right along with her.

This movie made me laugh more then once, I think you'll find yourself saying "aww that wasn't scary at all" and then lying awake at night jumping at random sounds 1nails<---- 1tehe

Just came home from seing "2012".
Good for being a catastrophe movie. Great CG effects, cool use of symbols (I love that :D), and the ending was much better than in "Knowing" (which ended in a weird way).

I had the feeling of "and now this will happen... and now that will happen..." throughout the movie - but that's normal for me... (Find me a movie I don't feel that way, and you're good  :-\)

For some strange reason I managed to mix up Nicholas Cage (Knowing) and John Cusack (2012) when explaining something to my boyfriend. But to my defence they are slightly alike, it's been some months since I saw "knowing", and I'm not the best at remembering who is who in Hollywood...

I still haven't got the chance to see HP 6. I've heard good things though.

Last movie I watched was the Family Guy movie with my son. We've seen it a billion times already, but Daemian loves it.

Last night I saw a really great movie called Stardust. It was awesome, for anyone that likes fantasy or the idea of De Niro playing a gay sky pirate (he did so well at that role. He was funny as could be).

The movie (Starlight) was good, but they really left a lot out from the book. Usually the case, isn't it? De Niro just rocks my socks in that movie, though. The last movie I watched was Slumdog Millionaire. It was good. I loved the music.

I can't remember the last movie I watched at the theater, I think it was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (They totally ruined it in some spots, but Alan Rickman's voice saved the thing from being a total loss.) The movie in the DVD player right now is Muppets From Space. What can I say, my kid loves Gonzo and Animal... What's bad is when he screams, "Eat drums!!" and tries to gnaw through his toys.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Twilight followed by New Moon.

Why?!?! Dear God, why?!?! 4 hours of my life gone... And for what? Vampires that have diamond dust sprayed on them? *Shudder*

The sad thing is that Twilight wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Once you removed the teen angst and stupid music (PG-13 restrictions prevent me from saying what I really think of the music. They went out of their way to make it "romantic". Epic fail.) it was almost viewable. Why Bella thinks a 100 year old vampire sneaking into her room every night to watch her sleep is sexy I will never know. Every woman I know would stake him for being a stalker. But then there wouldn't be a movie if she thought there was something wrong with him.

New Moon however, is just plain painful. And why is Bella never allowed to drive her own car? Both Edward AND Jacob drive and make her sit in the passenger seat... Again, every woman I know would put her foot somewhere painful on a man for trying to take her car keys away from her.

After watching the setup for both the vampires and werewolves, I'm forced to officially join Team Jacob. The werewolves may have some anger issues to work out, but at least they don't run around eating people.

Now I'm off to watch Avatar in 3D and hopefully purge these memories from my mind.

Totally agre with you, unclesparks. Saw the first Twilight not long ago, and either laughed because the effects and acting was so bad it was ridicolous, or almost fell asleep during "action scenes"... Might see the last one if I feel like throwing away another two (?) hours, but I don't think I'll ever touch the books... (horrors upon all horrors - I saw a combined biography for Patinson and the werewolf guy at the store)
100 year old sparkling stalker with sharp teeth and love issues? I'd run as far away I could...  :p

Last movie I saw in a theater was Up! I thought it'd be a wonderful idea to go see the movie on my due date.. Nothing happened.. Had her at 6:19 AM next day, so last movie that we seen before having a child was.. A children's movie.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Onyxia, For the Horde huh?  ;D Recognized the name belonging to the named boss from Onyxia's Lair in the Barrens. *nods*

Anyway, why would anyone find vampires sexy if they stand in the sun and glisten??? The vampires would realistically scream, writhe and cry if a beam of sunlight touched them fullstop. There's nothing sparkly about them... But the Twilight movie was okay if you can put up with teen angst, emo stuff and whatnot...

Last movie I saw is on DVD: A Perfect Getaway. Man, that movie threw me for a loop. The plot really twisted what I thought about one particular couple in the movie. I was like... "What did happen here? How did that happen?"

Movie before A Perfect Getaway: Paranormal Activity. Not really scary. Dear, if you watched Blair Witch Project, then you seen 'em all. A real yawner. My partner fell asleep after she said it was boring. *nods*

I have not been to a theater in years. I frankly don't remember what the movie was, but it had open captions and was available for deaf people to go watch at the movie theater. I don't bother with movie theaters because they refuse to make them open-captioned. One theater had a big bulky piece of junk that is supposed to help me see the captions. Uh right... Not gonna haul a 20 lb piece of junk across the theater to just see it. I have my dignity.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I didn't find Paranormal Activity scary at all. It disappointed me, to be honest, because I expected so much more. It's been so long since I saw a so-called scary movie actually scare me. Last movie I saw was on DVD. It was The Last Unicorn (I got it for Christmas). I love that movie. Yeah, it has it's cheesy moments, but I don't care. It's part of it's charm. I read the book when I was child and fell in love with the movie. I adore the butterfly in the beginning. LOL.

On DVD:

Jennifer's Body - A good movie with some scary bits and some gory bits too. I wouldn't recommend children watch this one because it has a heavy sexual hint and a heavy occultism hint too. The ending was rather disappointing though. Good acting from both girls, but the others were mediocre at best.

Before Jennifer's Body:

Hunt For Red October - A good Sean Connery/Alec Baldwin movie with quite a bit of suspense and action set out at sea. It was fun to watch a movie based on the book I read long time ago.

Precious- For the first time I saw a movie which made me cry, I'd recommend to others but never want to see again. The story is strong, tough to take but very real. No bleeding heart excuses are made for the abusers in this film (for once) and I fully appreciate that.  It's certainly not for young children.

Apparently it's movie-evening on the TV, so I watched "Eragon" up until a few minutes ago, and now it's "The day after Tomorrow".

Saw "The princess and the frog", "9" (the animation movie), and "Percy Jackson and the lightning thief" while I was at the Animex festival (plus some fun, exclusive clips from the "How to train your Dragon" movie from Dreamworks. I also talked a bit with James Baxter, who is a supervising animator at Dreamworks ;D).

9 was great (but a bit too predictable...), Princess and the frog - pretty much thypically Disney (You know the ending 5 minutes after the start, plus waaaaay too much singing and dancing), Percy Jackson - The book was better, but I loved the ending  ;D

I saw Avatar months ago, I though it was pretty good (albeit though the story of uncaring humans destroying other places/planets & cultures for money has been done before, plenty of times).

2012 made me laugh alot, so did Legion--then agan I have an odd sense of humor. Loved the Princess and the Frog, like Raven said typical disney songfest as usual, the kids loved it :D.

Planet 51, very cute.

Where the Wild Things Are...without a doubt the weirdest, crack-powered movie I have ever seen. That kid was a friggin psycho. His mom should have been more concerned with getting him some mental help than she was with work and dating.

I couldn't get through the first five minutes since I expected something fun and closer to the book.  I remember loving the awesome artwork in the book.

Watched 'The Lovely Bones (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0380510/)' earlier today with the S/O and some friends. Turned out to be a pretty good movie.

Liked this one as well. *Possible spoiler:* Watching it a second time creeped me out since you can totally recognize the stalking that you didn't notice before.

Trust me, Dasi. If you saw the 1st five minutes, you saw the whole thing. It sucked and was totally sad, weird and broody the whole way through. I think the directors thought they were being artistic for the emo kids or something.

Yep, it was the way the monsters/animals matched the book that made me want to see it, but whoa--the downer tone made me skip it without even seeing them.

Saw The Lost Boys when it aired the other day.  I still love it made me laugh a bit too. *sigh* RIP Corey Haim & also Andrew Koenig.

Just finished watching Love me if you Dare
It's an old-ish movie, 2003? 2004? and it's originally french.
It was a nice movie, I liked it.
I kinda felt like watching it just because part of it was in a music video I listened to a day before.  :p
I have to say, it was completely worth it.
I do have to say, french movies, or at least this one, are a bit weird.

Alice in Wonderland. Movie was so awesome, I am still speechless.

I wanna try and drag hubby to see 'How To Tame Your Dragon'. Dragons and viking are like perfect combo pack. I'm half way through melting him, If I managed to drag him To "Princess and A Frog" with me, this should be easy.

Watching Pocahontas with my son... I don't know what she's smokin'. Because the Native man Cocoam is better looking, stronger, and braver than John Smith.

(Little known info, did you know the John Smith part of the Pocahontas story never actually happened? Supposedly John Smith liked to flap his gums. At the time he says he met her, she was only about 11-13. And it turns out, John Smith was supposedly nowhere near her area until she already left the tribe to go to England with John Wolfe)

Well Disney is know for making sappy romance stories. Watch Pocahontas 2. Just youtube it and watch it with your son too.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: SenkoTwiik on March 25, 2010, 01:40:53 pm
I've seen #2...which is also barely based on fact, being that Pocahontas died on the way to England and had one son already at the time of her death (by husband John Rolfe). Also, she had at one time been married to Cocoam.

I'm going to see that How to Train a Dragon movie tomorrow. From everything I've heard, it's pretty good. Usually I'm a "wait for DVD" type of guy, but my little brother is insisting. Oh well, it's a nice change.  ;D
Time for me to turn in anyway, it's about 12:30 where I am. Don't want to fall asleep on the way to the theatre and completely miss the movie.

Not the best, but not the worst film either.

Shutter Island
Good movie. Sad, and confusing, but good. Leonardo Dicaprio has grown real manly looking with his ultra sexy 50's cop look.

And "From Paris, With Love"
This movie was dog poop! Totally boring. Maybe a 3 out of 10

The Stranger
This one was reallly lame, but in such a funny way. If you're like me and like corny movies, give this one a go. Very enjoyable and funny, just because of how bad it was.

Vampire movie, and definitely something other than the usual Hollywood stuff... I'm not a big fan of vamp movies, or monster/creature movies in general, but some of my friends are. This was actually good.

A Stephen King classic: The Tommyknockers

The movie was based on a book I once read before, and it is as good as the book goes.

The most hilarious movie? "Date Movie". I couldn't stop laughing because it was 1) Stupid, 2) Funny and 3) Crazy.

I'm trying to find another Stephen King classic movie: Langoliers to add to my vast DVD collection.

Oh yes, Avatar was really good. I admitted it was a very heart warming movie with pretty good special effects.

I went to see The Last Exorcism with my sister on Sunday. What a disappointment. It only started getting interesting during the last 20 minutes.

You know it's bad when you find yourself falling asleep during a so-called horror movie.

Just finished watching Serenity for the second time.  Never watched Firefly, but a friend recommended it to me.  It was good.

I just finished watching Precious. All I have to say about that is this:

 5cry

I want to see this movie, really, really bad.  WCIF?  Can you rent it anywhere?  Or better, buy it?  I haven't seen it around.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I enjoyed Serenity (and Firefly). As for Precious, it was released in March, I believe. I rented a copy of it at Rogers Video. :) This is a movie I'll definitely want to buy myself, though.

Right now I'm trying very hard to watch The Number 23 (on the advice of a few friends of mine). What is it with these horror/thrillers that do nothing and go no where? They said if I enjoyed Davinci Code I'd enjoy this. Pssht. Guh. I'm hoping it gets better. Then again, what can I expect from Jim Carey? He should really stay away from anything that's not comedy.

Edit: Well, I'm left with nothing but a sense of disappointment. I really need to find something good to watch to break this lousy movie streak I'm on.

I loved Dragonfly. Going to look up: Remember me, Serenity and Firefly now as I'd love to see something good.

I liked "Nanny Mcfee Returns" a lot (although I didn't like the poo humorous bits) and my kids really loved it.

@Joy, if you don't mind subtitles "El Orfanato" is good thriller/horror type picture I don't think you'll be disappointed with.

Watched "Alice in Wonderland" (1999), plus "Big Trouble" (2002) on Monday. Big trouble is hilarious! We almost fell of our seats laughing  ;D

Watched "Avatar" Tuesday. And "Journey to the center of the Earth" yesterday.

Child's play-- the first one which imho is the best.  I think what I liked best (way back when I first saw it) is that at first for a while you didn't really know if the kids was nuts or the doll was really alive.

Also my nephew had a my buddy doll so it's like I knew "Andy" personally 1titter.  That doll didn't last much longer after this movie.

Rocky Horror Picture Show on DVD with the audience enabled. I love listening to what they yell and yelling along with it

Frank'n'furter: Whatever happened to Fae Rae?

Audience: The ape %^$#-ed her and she exploded!

Hm, let's see. The last movie I saw I can't remember the title of. Oh, wait. Yes I do. It was Stir of Echoes. Kevin Bacon plays a skeptic who starts having visions after being hypnotized by his sister-in-law. It was pretty good.

I really liked the (newest) Sherlock Holmes movie. Haven't gotten too far into the book(s) yet, but I like how it's not copied directly, and I loved the funny moments. I also liked the recent TV series. Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing as Sherlock ;D

Oh yes I loved both of those too. I'd put off seeing the film for the same reason thinking is would be just hype and was pleasantly surprised. The BBC Sherlock series cliffhanger made me angry though (that I have to wait for the next episode that is 1titter).

We saw Thor last month at the midnight opener. Our son was away at a special class event (Camp Courageous) for two days, so we actually got to go to the THEATER!! *gasp* I'd forgotten how lousy the popcorn with extra butter is but how great the gigantic fountain sodas are... I really want to see the new Pirates movie that has come out, but will have to wait for the DVD release. For the main part, I have to rely on DVD. Right now, the Johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is in the player.

Thor was amazing! I love how the movie left off. Theater popcorn is terrible where I am, too. The drinks are always AWESOME! The new Pirates movie was okay but I guess I prefer the first three because of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley's storyline.

Thor. It wasn't one of those movies destined to go down in history as one of the greats, but it was enjoyable and my mother and I enjoyed some of the nice views. ;)

Of course, I was giggling every time he said "I am Thor!" and, after the movie, my mom asked what it was about. It was because every time he said "I am Thor!" I wanted to say, "It's becauthe you forgot your thaddle thilly."  1lmao

The Other Woman with Natalie Portman. It was just, well, stupid and overdone. All throughout the movie, she's a hypocrite and doesn't realize it until the last twenty minutes of the movie and attempts to move on with her life only to return to the prick.

Hated it.

Sounds like you had quite a day Simneesee ;).

Pirates of the Caribbean. Love the way Captain Jack Sparrow walks and runs... priceless :)

:D I totally agree.  Captain Jack running is a joy to behold. Enjoyed the movie too.

Saw X-men the New Class which I liked, Kung Fu Panda 2--a movie my kids and I enjoyed together, & Source Code which was very good imho.

Pirates of the Caribbean #4. I kind of liked the three first movies better - but it was entertaining.

The 3rd and 4th pirates movies were filmed very close to where I live, actually it's exactly where my sister is getting married in August! XD (Grand Haven, ftw.)

I just watched Cars on Disney Channel, unwillingly, but I still love it.

I watched House of Flying Daggers with my niece last night. We're both doing dancing and martial arts so we loved it :) It was the perfect combination of both. Ziyi Zhang is my favorite actress and of course, I loved watching Takeshi Kaneshiro fight. He's just plain out awesome. I should also mention that the scenery was just incredible! Zhang Yimou (the director) always does colorful scenery (the colors always stand for something).

Harry potter 7, part 2.
It was good, but (as usual) it lacked a few things I'd liked to see. Some of the scenes were slightly too much changed from the book, too.

Is it just me, or does it seem like almost every single ("teen") actor in the HP movies are doing their performance kind of awkwardly and unnatural? I kind of expect cicadas to start chirping between each line, ever since the 3rd movie. Even though the child/teen actors were slightly more straight off the script in the two first (especially Harry/Daniel R), I think they kind of seemed more alive and natural in both of those two movies...

I was so disappointed in that last Harry Potter movie. It actually made me mad at how bad it was, though everyone I went with (myself included) got a good laugh out of it. Good thing we weren't in the middle of a theater but at the drive-in instead.... We did get some kids glaring at us, though XD

I last watched 27 Dresses. It was a very cute movie. Loved the idea of it.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I sat giggling throughout the movie, to be really honest... I'd hoped for some touching moments and such, but the only time I actually teared up a bit was Dobby's death in the previous movie. The film was OK, good (but not great) for being a HP-movie, but it lacked something. I was very disappointed at the "final showdown" between Voldie and Harry. The whole "Flying around Hogwarts" thing didn't make much sense to me. And then it's just wands out, a couple of words and... that's it?

So I can understand what you meant about getting a good laugh of it.

I recently saw a documentary about the Sherman Brothers. Who knew that they basically hated each other, and barely spoke to each other after the left the Disney company? That's deep stuff right there. I may hate my brother every now and again, but I probably wouldn't go twenty years without talking to him.

Watched Independence Day until the city-sized ships detached from the mothership, then tuned back in in time for Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum to do the impossible: Somehow fly a stolen alien spacecraft into the mothership without the aliens catching on, somehow hooking up their laptop to the alien's computer network, launching a computer virus and a missile, and escaping alive.

I want to see Ponyo SO bad! Hayao Miyazaki does excellent movies. :D

And yeah, John Travolta is far far far from my favorite, but Hugh Jackman is awesome (and hot!). ;D

I recently watched Martyrs, a French horror movie. It was SERIOUSLY MESSED UP! Ten times more vicious and scary than any American horror movie I've seen.

When it came to theaters, a friend of mine (an X-Men fan) asked me if I'd go see it with him. I said yes because no one else would go. I figured I'd just sit through the movie and pretend to have a good time. By the time the credits started rolling, I was addicted. I turned to him and said, "I'm borrowing your X-Men movies. Tonight."

Sita Sings The blues, an obscure but very interesting animated movie created by Nina Paley. Here's a link to her website: http://www.sitasingstheblues.com I don't know if Ms Paley was ever a Simmer or not but she would have made a great one! She made this movie and then just gave it away! Wonderful! A must-see if, for no other reason, than to honor her creative spirit and generous, wonderful attitude toward life, culture and everything!

I spent my time as a teen reading X-Men and dating, which can make for an explosive mix when your favourite character is Wolverine and you know you're tougher than most of the guys in your class, even if they DO play football because YOU'RE a teacher's kid! (You'd have to be one to understand the reference because as one you're exposed to so much more bullying than most and you either knuckle under or grow a bigger set than a wild bull.)

That being said, the last movie watched here was My Neighbor Totoro.

Last movie watched here at the house is, oddly enough, Thor. In complete 3D. Guess what the loving husband spent a good deal of our tax refund on this year??? He's worse of a geek than I am, sometimes.

Independence Day.

Not exactly a good movie in the classical sense, but as an action movie spectacle (one-liners everywhere, cities get blown up, good triumphs in the end, much violence, enough sexuality to break up the constant action), it's great....and to think it's going to be re-released in 3-D next year. I'm excited for that.

I saw 1 1/2 movies tonight...

Suck - the title explained it all.  a dark comedy movie a friend suggested about vampire rockstars... I could only tolerate a half hour before shutting it off and switching to Dark Shadows... which, by the way, was very entertaining. Humor, romance, murder, and drama... it's all present in that movie. All my friends who have seen it told me it was worth seeing. They were right. :) I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Shadows! :D

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Yeah, Suck really did suck, but I already hinted as much to you. LOL.

I haven't seen Dark Shadows yet, because I'm too afraid I'll be disappointed. (I love the original soap - my mom used to watch it when I was almost too young to remember lol).

The last movie I saw was Looper. It was really good. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a great job of playing a young Bruce Willis.

Yes, you told me so... :P I just wanted to find out for myself. Open a window, what a stinker! xD

I haven't seen the original soap, so I can't compare. But the movie was really good; it had some giggle-worthy stuff in it, as well as plenty of dark drama and romance. :D

I think I'll toss my expectations out and give it a try. I usually find if I try to enjoy a movie in its own merits without comparing it to what it is based upon I'll usually end up liking it.. Besides, I love good cheese .  my overplayed Evil Dead movies is testimony to that.

Looking forward to seeing Dark Shadows, Johnny Depp in almost ANY movie is enough of a reason to watch it. The boom stick line is actually a ring tone that I have on my cellphone... Gotta love Bruce Campbell, he rocks anything he's in and the more cheesy the movie plot is, the better he shows off his skills in making me laugh, which I haven't been doing for a good long time, really. Sorry I haven't been on much, it gets hard when you can't read much of the posts because your vision is fading faster than cheap blue jeans.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I just saw The Strangers.

Normally movies don't scare me (although there are a couple that do ;) ), but this movie scared me so bad I had a panic attack. When it comes to usual horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, they can be somewhat creepy but all-in-all we feel good in knowing that it is, in fact, unreal. But this is not only about something that could really happen (and has happened), but it's based on true events. The realness makes it scary.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: caffeinated.joy on October 19, 2012, 04:31:09 am
I've seen it. It's definitely a creepy movie because it crawls right into your head and plays with fears everyone has, whether they realize it or not. What was the last movie I watched? I honestly don't remember. LOL. I got about halfway through it before saying, "This really sucks butt." and turning it off.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

I am at a true loss for words to accurately describe this movie. Amazing? Epic? Wonderful? None come close. I must admit, the title definitely rendered me skeptical. I figured it's be some cornball B-grade film. But several of my friend raved about it, which convinced me to give it a try.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is, in my opinion, the greatest movie of 2012. I HIGHLY recommend it. 1goodjob

Mooncat, I'm so excited to see the movie now. I was really scared to because I'm picky about movies and I don't want it to be a piece of crap. Now I have a recommendation. Yay.

Last movies I saw:

Snow White and the Huntsman- Sucked. It was so boring I wanted to scream.
Rock of Ages- Very fun if you like musicals
Suckerpunch- Very boring. In truth I only say about 10 minutes of it because I'm not into that dumb artsy type.

The book, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," was very dry and dusty, hard to get through, so the movie has GOT to be an improvement. I re-watched Thor yesterday and had a blast with it.

You didn't like Snow White and the Huntsman, Senko? I actually loved it (and it was the last one I saw, so...relevant! :D )

A day or so before that I saw The Campaign, which I thought was.... eeehhh... So funny, but so bad. So so bad. Even if they knew it was bad, it was just painful sometimes.

And before THAT was Sherlock Holmes, which I really liked but they made him too Dr. House. Even if House was modeled after Holmes, I think they reremodeled Holmes after House....

I watch that (Deep Impact) with my girls last year, they loved it.

Recently watched Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2 which I happened to like (no throwing tomatoes :p).  I don't know the books and gratefully I live in a rural countryside so I didn't get the hubbub Twi-mania that I've heard about on the web.  With all it's flaws I liked the series overall. I like my vampires a tad more...hmm how do I put it? Traditional--that's it.  I don't really want them glittering in the sunlight, but hey it was a decent vampire fairytale.  Kind of like something I might read to my vampire kids at dawn before bed ;D.

Saw Flight which was great and about to finish watching Loopers.  I saw part of it and had to run so I can't wait to go finish it.

Saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and was not disappointed.  I really enjoyed that one.

Best part was my daughter watching it with me after having {coincidentally for school} spent the week studying about Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. We joked that somewhere a kid was going to flunk an assignment because they wrote a paper on *spoiler alert* how Lincoln's use of the underground railroad brought a just end to the tyranny, inequality and viciousness of the evil vampires from the south--coasting the North to civil war victory .

*Sigh* It's nice to see kids enjoying history...

I enjoyed Looper too.

Hatchet

The movie was very entertaining as long as you don't start it with the expectation of a serious horror/slasher movie. The chase scenes were funny, the dialogue cheesy and amusing, the deaths graphic and bloody. Dark comedy with a side of gore. I enjoyed it. :D

Django Unchained- strong performannces, well done imo.

The Hobbi
t - loved it of course.

The impossible
- I remember the time vividly and this was emotional for me.  Some have said the flaw of this movie was that the plight of thousands was really not portrayed well here...but this was meant to be the tsunami as experienced by this one particular family so I get why it wasn't.  I found it moving.

Les Misérables
- I'd heard of this for years but never read about it nor saw it on Broadway although the signs used to be everywhere.  Cried like a baby.

Saw Les Misérables again last night, this time with the kids.  It was funny they were all  "Ugh a musical really?"

Then my older one says "Come on let's humour her for five minutes..."  So I said "Ok,just give it five or ten minutes and if you don't like it we pick something else."

They were hooked by the time Val Jean was sleeping at the door of the church. So lots more crying this time in stereo.  Me<---mom enjoyment maxed out.

I also saw The Possession this afternoon, enjoyed that one too. Next up Mooncat?  3yay I need suggestions I'm all tapped out. Only movies I don't do are zombie ones...blame my sister for making me watch one when I was six.

The Wrestler is an awesome flick. The wrestling just serving as a backdrop for far more universally felt themes. Great performance by Marissa Tomei and the best performance by a bloated actor (Mickey Rourke) not named Marlon Brando ever. I haven't enjoyed Rourke's work this much since The Pope of Greenwich Village , a real oldie.

Good movie! I haven't seen the original, so I can't compare... but I'm guessing that the original is better than the remake, as is typical with 99.9% of other movies. :D

Alright movie, but not WOW in any sense. Then again, the LotR stuff has calmed down for me, so I really only watched the movie to have watched it. Can't remember much from the book as it's ages since I read it, so I can't even do the the book VS movie discussion.

So, last night I finally watched Sinister. I really enjoyed it, although I was disappointed at the fact that it wasn't scary. Don't get me wrong, it was SUPER creepy, but I didn't jump or have nightmares like I expected to. I thought it was supposed to be really scary. :(

Entertaining, yes. Interesting, definitely. Creepy, heck yes! But scary? No. But I still loved it. :)

I'm with you Raven.  I liked the Hobbit quite a bit but I love Lord of the Rings.  I think it's more that I always liked Lord of the Rings better then the Hobbit when I was younger anyway—so I'd say the excitement is pretty much in line with how I felt about the stories in general.  I was curious to see how the Hobbit would turn out but I was never in can't-wait-to-see-it mode like I was with the other movies.

Totoro and Whisper of the Heart have always been my childrens' favs along with pretty much any Hayao Miyazaki film--they've just about seen them all.

Recently saw Don't be afraid of the Dark which was slightly better then I expected although the very beginning made me cringe.   Also saw Jack Reacher which I had put off watching before.  It had been a little too close to the shootings when it first premiered so I was put off by the beginning of it. I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan but it was fairly decent.

I'll be watching Sinister next...{thx Mooncat! 3yay}

Just finished watching Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer. Really good movie! Murder scenes were a bit graphic, and it was really messed up. Really creepy for a true story. Henry Lee Lucas was one heck of a creep.

Plus, Michael Rooker was SERIOUSLY good-looking back then! He definitely scored points on the hottie meter. ;) Even though he portrayed Henry, I still swooned over him! ;D

Over the past few weeks I've also re-watched Cinderella (the original), Passengers, Redeye, The Princess and the Frog, and Les Mis w/the kiddies. Loved them all of course.

Last night I watched House At The End Of The Street which is pretty awesome, and I watched Jumper which is a really good movie about people with the power to transport themselves. :D Dasi,  I recommend it if you haven't already seen it. :)

I just finished watching my FAVORITE childhood movie... Was it Cinderella? No. Lion King? No. My favorite childhood movie was Twister. ;D It's the reason I wanted to be a tornado chaser when I grew up. :D

I'm so glad ya'all enjoyed Jumper! :D I feel honored to be your movie advisor. :D I'll just leave out the horror recommendations. ;)

Last night, I watched Martyrs, a brutally vicious French horror film. I cringed/flinched/winced at several scenes. But hey, that's what I live for. ;D

Tonight I watched The Blind Side. I never get tired of it, so uplifting! :D

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

I can take horror just not zombie flicks.  I like a genuinely good scare though. Gore does not scare me at all--it just is not something I like watching so I'm usually like meh  when it's gratuitous. If it fits the scene though it doesn't affect me so I guess it depends on the movie/show.

I've seen a few French films with cringe worthy scenes so I think I know what you mean.  I'm rarely alone (i.e., kiddies around) to see the really good scares these days ;).

Oh, saw Olympus has Fallen a few days ago.

Last night we watched Vanishing on 7th Street.  Made me want to punch my TV screen but we were really caught up the whole movie, so hmmm....nope can't recommend it unless you just want to smash your screen.

Haven't seen The Blind Side yet perhaps I'll check that out :D.

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?
Post by: caffeinated.joy on May 07, 2013, 10:50:51 pm
Vanishing on 7th Street is seriously the most ridiculous movie. The acting was only so so and the plot line was terrible. That ending??? Way to NOT answer a single question about anything going on, Anthony Jaswinksi (writer) and Brad Anderson (director).

Trying to think of a good movie I've seen recently and the only thing I can think of is Some Like it Hot. I watched it last night for something like the billionth time. Tony Curtis in a dress. Jack Lemmon in a dress. XD

Oh! Wait. I've seen The Devil's Backbone a few times. It's a good, creepy movie (in Spanish - so there's subititles) by Guillermo del Tor (Pan's Labyrinth - another good movie with a certain creep factor).

Title: Re: What's the last movie you watched?

Pain & Gain--not what I was expecting but then I really didn't know much about it. I just sort of opted for anything and that was the one I ended up watching.  Funny at times yet somewhat gruesome in some bits--moreso if you think about it being a true story.

Saw Pan's Labyrinth a few times with the kids a few years back, ha they loved it.  It was advertised then as a family /children's pick oddly enough.

Still haven't seen Sinister or The Call so I'll probably check those out tomorrow.

Drag Me To Hell

Not bad at all. As a horror buff since age 8, I've come to recognize the repetitive plot lines and lack of originality in the majority of modern-day American horror cinema. But I rather enjoyed this. If anything, the acting was good, and they didn't make another "splatter movie" (gore for gore's sake). :)

Yet again, I watched Independence Day.

Comments are the same as last time. If you're in the market for a slightly cheesy action/alien invasion disaster flick with at least a semblance of humor, this is your film. Still find quite a few of the one-liners funnier than I should.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

I liked it, but despite the fact that I have not read the book(s) it was very predictable. I sat mouthing "plotpoint" several places in the film, and 5-10 minutes later it turns out I was right. I also saw some of the major plot points way too early. The characters also suffered from my major "monster-movie" pet-peeve in not running when it's logical. If some bizarre creature comes toward you, don't even bother looking at it and wondering what it is. If it looks dangerous and you don't have a proper weapon, then run and hide as fast as your legs can carry you! Also, look up (but discretely). They always forget to look up.

It also belongs to the story that I had a quite bizarre dream that night, mixing in a little of this and a little of that (including some from the movie, what might have been sims-babies, the Doctor (Matt Smith) + River on "new adventures", plus a whole lot of non-BBC-approved monsters and whatnots), which had it come as a movie I'd most definitely go and watch. As always I'm not quite sure how it ended, because I always wake up before the solution is wrapped up. But I know it was good (exciting, and pretty much devoid of all my movie pet peeves, and totally unpredictable).

The Hobbit, Battle of the Five Armies. Good series but I have some issues with the characters thrown in that aren't originally in the book. Sue me, I can be a purist at times. I had time to watch because I'm down for about the third or fourth week sick and not looking for any improvement for about another month or more... Sometimes, I really hate being too stubborn to crawl under the blankets and just die, you know??

Ditto, only given all the pre-release hype (that one always hears) with this critique I'd decided to accept this as more of an alternate story and was able to enjoy it as such :).

Taken 3 & The Equalizer -  saw both a couple of months ago and liked them.  More recently Nonstop- because Liam Neeson is da man 1rock & Long way down- which was fairly funny.  I enjoyed it but that can be partially attributed to my liking several of the actors already.

Jurassic World.  More hubris.  Like these idjit characters never saw the first movie?

Why it's hubris is very clear from the trailers, but I won't repeat it here for those who haven't seen them.

We watched Police Academy 3 today. As if I needed to lose even more brain cells than I am daily from aging, I'll never understand.

Was holding off on that one, however going to check it out now. I recommend Midnight FM ;).

My last movie was the final movie of the Hunger Games series.

On an actual movie screening - Star Wars (awesome!)
On TV - some random movie.

We pretty much only do DVDs and the other night we watched Pixels. I LOVED it! (Yes, I'm still alive. No, the fall I took today didn't kill me. And yes, I've gotten back into playing my game. Yay, me!)

The original Carrie adaptation. John Travolta had a wonderful head of hair back in the day.

I refused to go to Ender's Game.  I could tell from the trailers they'd broken it, so I refused to give the breakers any money.

I think the last movie I went to was Star Wars Episode VII.

Well, didn't see it in a theater but today, for the first time and after years of listening to the soundtrack, I watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And I loved it!

Rocky Horror is such a classic! Love it!

The last movie I watched was Female Agents, it was a french film. I really enjoyed it.

In theaters the last movie I saw was Mockingjay Part 2

Again, watched it on DVD, but I got to see the Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies extended edition. I'd seen the regular version but this one broke my heart even more. Damn you, Peter Jackson... I'm hoping I get to see Alice Through the Looking Glass when it comes out on the 27th of this month, but not holding my breath because my husband won't wanna let me go with my best buddy to see it; I'll more than likely have to wait to see it on DVD because the expense of seeing it in the theater is kinda cost-prohibitive. It's cheaper to just buy it when it comes out even if I have to miss out on what everyone else is raving/griping about.

The original Frequency because I just found the tv series on netflix.

I don't watch tv so I find everything eons later than the crowd.  Anyhoo, loved it just as much as when I first watched it. Tv series?   –Bored the first 6min, don't really like the characters (bad casting?) but it did get interesting after a rough start. I may even watch episode two 1titter

The last movie... The last movie... I think it was (finally) Captain America Civil War. I enjoyed it but wow, are they really messing the heroes around.

Meet the Hollowheads; aka Life on the Edge (1989)

The best way to describe it is: The Jetsons if it took place in a neon-colored 80's environment on acid with bizarre practical special effects galore.

Everything is run on tubes/utility hoses from United Umbilical Co., the decorative houseplant is a mass of tentacles with a giant eyestalk in the middle; and the Hollowhead family lives on a literally endless drop-off called "The Edge."

A movie you'd never remotely know about otherwise, even the dvd release is unofficial; apparently akin to a bootleg. The actual group of people who created/directed and wrote it didn't even know about the small following it has.

(It's on YouTube if you want to see it. Keep an open mind; its an experience!)

The last movie I watched was The Dark Tower. It's an ok movie but nothing more. Never read the books but I can certainly see why the book fans are pissed off by this movie.

"Thor: Ragnarok", which was very funny and entertaining.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was worth the time it took to view. I'm hoping to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 some time in the near future but I've also managed to see Dr. Strange. Very enjoyable! Looking forward to Ragnarok, that's for sure.

(Also the roomy, GF, and I did binge Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, and every single Harry Potter movie a few weeks back)

Got to see Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, loved it. Managed to catch most of the new Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead men Tell no Tales, and it was a pretty decent outing. Right now, my brain is still recovering from the husband's all week-end long binge watch of the TV series Get Smart. The movie they made out of it with Steve Carrel and Anne Hathaway was a decent watch. Debating on whether or not to let the boy watch the newest Jeff Dunham, though. I really don't need him repeating more of Peanut and Achmed at school than he already does; even if he IS in eighth grade they still have limits as to what they'll tolerate when it comes to kids cursing... Last thing he needs is suspended. Hell, the last thing I need is for him to get suspended, what am I talking about??

Star Wars: The Last Jedi. That movie was a hot mess.

...and Furball, my Brother in Law introduced my nephews and niece to the joy that is Jay and Silent Bob. AKA: they binged a bunch of Kevin Smith flicks recently. We're waiting to see who gets suspended first for repeating some of the lines from those movies. Hah!

My kid has seen ONE Jay and Silent Bob movie and that was Dogma... He really loved watching Alan Rickman in that movie. If it's got Rickman, he'll watch it. On Sunday, though, we watched the live action version of Beauty and the Beast.

We just watched The Christmas Chronicles (we as in me and my mother, while my child wasn't home, because I wanted to see if it was appropriate for her).
